You know you've come a long way toward adulthood when your favorite shirt is something appropriate to wear to work. You know propriety has you in its grip when your favorite shoes are conventional. You know you've made a wrong turning on the path from childhood when you delight in finding the last bagel in the conference room.

  1. Is it a wrong turning to still delight in surprises? Or appreciate small comforts? If anything that all the growing up we've done on and off of these blogs of ours has shown me, it's that small surprises and small delights and small comforts are sometimes the best of those things, to be cherished in the moment. Also, that being an adult is hard, and that you absolutely do end up having favorite kitchenware.

  2. Mm it still feels like a loss when you can't remember the last time you touched a bug with joy, or opened a door because you were baffled by the sign on it, or had to admit you were wrong.

But finding bagels is fine. It just isn't what we all wanted when we were small.
