3.12a

He climbed out of the submarine and reveled in the surface. He and the others had been under for two days, and the air was growing stale, like an empty room filled with ancient furniture. It was good to smell the salt and fish again. It was good to hear the lapping of the waves on the boat. It was good to see more than twenty feet in front of himself.

Even though their sub was captured and he was a POW, he was having the time of his life.

I like that. Also the ancient furniture (although can I just say that I still sort of . . . imagined it with ancient people sitting silently around in it, blending in with the furniture?)

You also got a song stuck in my head.

This feels appropriate for Sabbath and my sister's birthday, and I'm not sure why. I guess the respite reminds me of Sabbath, somehow? And the whole "only a slave can be truly free" thing? I don't know.

  2. Hm. What song?

I have been in a sub (on dry land) and I don't think I could be in there for more than a few hours. I would want to stand up.

  3. I've been in a sub, also, and it was in water! It was an exhibit, and we didn't go anywhere, or anything, but it was super cool and also very claustrophobic. Yeah, and also the standing thing.

(I've Had) The Time of My Life.

    Fitting.

  4. Last time I was on a sub I was in fourth grade, so it was just the right size. It was fun for an afternoon adventure.

  5. Sub experience for me was similar to Brooke's. Haha, why doesn't the Navy just use kids?? Anyway love description and especially the last sentence!

    (PS: catching-up-on-Robby's-blog-time...just so you know.)
